Letter C and Cycle of a Butterfly

We started our week by learning about C the Caterpillar.

C the Caterpillar cuts colorful leaves.  The students are making the /c/ sound as they pretend to cut with scissors.

 

 We sang a song about a butterfly.  First it begins as a tiny egg and comes out as a caterpillar with many legs.

Then it spins into a chrysalis.

 Last, it comes out as a beautiful butterfly!

Miss Liz read The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle.  Porter and Solia helped retell the story with  our flannel board.

We learned about numbers and counting during centers.

Brendan worked on this animal puzzle.

Chloe made patterns with connecting caterpillars.

Emily enjoyed lacing around this butterfly card.

The 4-year-olds are learning several sight words.

Miss Brieann worked with kids to draw and write what they do in the day and night time.

We enjoyed making mobiles to show the life cycle of a butterfly.

Ian is gluing pom poms on his caterpillar.

Anniston is coloring a beautiful butterfly. 

Sophia was given a letter C stamp after she told about a  word that begins with c.

Emily brought real caterpillars for show-and-tell!  We even saw one that was already in a chrysalis.

Madison brought colorful fall leaves!

Meow!  Ava brought her colorful toy cat.

 

 We learned the sight word, "the" as a group.  We traced the letters in the air with our fingers...

 ...and we wrote it with red and blue pencils.  As you read with your child, have them look and find "the" in the text for practice.

Ian enjoyed cutting like C the Caterpillar.

Brendan looked through The Very Hungry Caterpillar,  while Gavin played with connecting caterpillars.

 The children learned what animals do in the day and night.

In groups of 6, we learned about what causes day and night.  The children took turns being the earth and sun.  While the sun is always shining, the earth is rotating.  When earth is facing away from the sun, it is night for us.  When the earth is facing the sun, it's day.  We also pulled objects from a bag and sorted them into 2 piles according to whether they're used in the day or night.

We had a fun week!  Sorry to put so many pictures on this post.  I'll have to make two posts next week instead of just one.  Be sure to look at the October and November calendar that went home today.  Next week we'll be learning about dinosaurs along with the letter D!
